| Professor Govardhan received his M.A. and his first Doctorate degree in english from the University of Madras. He received his second Doctorate also in english from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. He has also received PGDTE from CIEFL presently known as the English & Foreign Language University, Hyderabad, India. Professor Govardhan has nearly 30 years of experience in teaching English in India, USA & Nigeria. He has taught courses in literature, applied linguistics, technical and professional writing and rhetoric and composition. He has trained graduate students to teach writing to both native and non-native speakers of English. Over the years Prof. Govardhan has presented papers in several conferences organized by Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, American Association of Applied Linguistics, College Reading and Learning Association, The College Board, Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages (now EFLU). He has published articles in journals like TESOL Quarterly, CIEFL Bulletin, etc., and has written chapters in books brought out by reputed publishers. Prof. Govardhan has written and presented more than one hundred lessons on television (India and Malaysia) on grammar, paragraph development, rhetorical strategies, technical and business writing etc.
Under the Fulbright-Nehru grant Professor Govardhan is associated with the VIT University, Vellore, Tamil Nadu where he will be sharing his expertise in the following areas: (a) to assess the effectiveness of the current english curriculum and suggest methods to improve the same, (b) to provide guidance/training to english language teachers to improve their teaching methodologies as they relate to communication skills, (c) to provide guidance in conducting research, especially classroom based research in teaching and learning english, and (d) to design and teach professional and business communication. |
